The greater focus of my
inquiry into identity, displacement and memory has come from the place of
speaking more than one language. The seed for this particular work began to
germinate about ten years ago. It was a time I felt distant and displaced from
my mother tongue.
I started to look more closely at the space that lies
between languages. It was a way of looking at the shifts in perception,
imagination and other things which give us the ability to communicate and
negotiate with the world at large. It is a place where we can talk about
difference or how difference can be understood.
